New EV’s come with their own longer EV battery warranty. Many are 8, 10, or more years, and up to 150,000 miles.
What constitutes a defective EV battery under the factory warranty? One trigger is a warning light on your vehicle’s information screen, and you bring the vehicle in for what becomes a warranty repair (or replacement). of EV components or the EV battery itself. Each manufacturer has different coverages on EV component and battery. Check your vehicles warranty book on information specific to your vehicle.
The second warranty deals with the batteries ability to hold a specific minimum charge. EV batteries, to make a warranty claim on charge %, must be able to hold a minimum charge of 70% of capacity. This is considered normal, as battery packs degrade with age. If your vehicle does not reach 70% minimum state-of-charge, you should deliver it to your dealer requesting warranty repair (assuming you are inside warranty coverage period).
